Cushion Cover for A Friend

Cushion cover again? Yes but what can we say. And we love making cushion covers. They are fast to sew and the end results are very satisfying. This also gave us the opportunity to create new design that suits the recipient's personality.

Sling Bag

This sling bag was specially ordered by Mrs. D. Earlier she requested for a Kindle case which was made using the same fabric. It seemed that she wanted a matching sling bag that can fit the case. So here is the sling bag ( I forgot to photograph the kindle case).

The flap is secured with a magnetic snap.

Bazaar on 17.12.2011 - Part 1

Hi. It is the holiday season again. This 2011 year will soon end. Time flies. It has been almost 4 weeks since the school holidays started. For us, we have decided to take part and join the fun at a one day bazaar organised at Jaya One PJ tomorrow. It has been a busy month. We started preparing for the bazaar about 1 month ago. Well, we had to actually find time to prepare the products in between the daily tasks at the shop. It has been an interesting experience so far. We discussed and made samples before we set on making them for the bazaar. Thank you to MI and MA for their contribution. Let's have fun tomorrow and make new friends.

Here are some of the products which we managed to finished for the bazaar.

Box pouches in maroon, blue and brown combination.

Pin cushions in various colours. Actually I wished I could make more of them but it is quite time consuming.

Bags - i love how they turned out. I used to 100% hand sewn them but this time, we machine stitched them. It was much faster.

Bag with Twisted Cording Handle

This is another request from Mdm K. It is a rather spacious bag with twisted cording handle (thanks M for your efforts). I guess it is more comfortable to carry the bag on one's shoulder since the cording is not hard. The body was quilted using free motion quilting pattern.

Requested by Mdm D for her sewing machine. She needs this cover to replace the original plastic cover. Looking more stylish now in this beautiful christmassy fabric. It comes with 2 guttered side pockets to fit in the foot pedal and the accessory case.

With pocket at both sides.

Ladies, if you need one made for your machine, please provide the measurement (overall height, overall width, top width , bottom width for the sides) so it nicely fits your machine. Or simply bring over the plastic cover as a sample.

We can also make similar cover for your kitchen appliances such as food processor, blender or toaster.

We can make a baby quilt for you if you don't have the time! Standard package: finished size of 35"(w) x 43"(h) with polyester batting and white muslin backing, with matching binding. Quilting - both hand and machine depending on pattern.

Note:

If you need the baby quilt to be bigger than 34"x 43", you can add some borders. Cotton batting is also available. And as for its backing, you may want to choose flannel for a slightly thicker finishing. But the price will vary accordingly.

A Girl's Handbag

Mrs. K and family have been our regular customers. They just loved to have different bags and totes made with matching coin purses. This handbag here is a special order for her grand daughter. The girl picked the body fabric. It was a bit tough to decide on the fabrics for the applique but after going through our statsh, we settled with this combination.

The inside view - pink checks lining with 1 zippered pocket and 2 simple pockets.

The side view - two separate body bags joined together - a design which the girl chose herself. Not bad for a 7 year old!

Hand Applique Cushion Covers

Hi. Made this cushion cover using vibrant orange colours, for a change. Just to experiment and see the end result. I like the combination. Very bright and fresh. The motifs are hand appliqued to the background fabric. I finished it off with free motion quilting. I made two pieces, in case someone needs a pair.

I recently custom made 2 pieces for a client but using a different colour scheme. I will post the pictures later.

A Special Gift

The ladies from Indonesia who came to learn the handphone pouch last Saturday had made a request for us to sew a bag as a gift for their course facilitator. After discussing the design and selecting the fabrics (once again the small black polka dot is chosen), and negotiating the fee of course, here is the end product. A hand appliqued bag with wooden handle. It took us a few hours to hand applique the flowers and another 4-5 hours to assemble the body, free motion quilt, attach the lining and finally fit the handle.

I like the combination of these fabrics. Black is beautiful, don't you think so?

Thank you Wardah and Nelly for trusting us to create this beautiful gift. We hope the lady likes the bag.

Kawan-kawan Dari Seberang

Last Saturday we had a group of students from Indonesia. They are actually lecturers from a university in Acheh. They are here to attend a two week course at the UM. In between they managed to find some time to learn some simple craft. They decided to take up the challenge of making a handphone pouch. And all of them have never used a sewing machine before. But I must say, they are fast to catch up.

All of them couldn't wait to see the end result, their first ever handmade craft using a machine. First time for Nelly and Lia but Wardah prefers to hand stitch her crafts back at home (tapi kalau mau beli mesinnya jangan lupa telpon kami!)

A King Size Quilt

Hi. It has a while since my last post. I was a bit busy and I tend to procastinate my blog updating. Now that the quilting frame is at home, I would sometimes return home early to continue with quilting.

My latest big project was this machine appliqued king size quilt that my team and I started some months ago. The owner had been asking about the quilt a few times! The blocks were individually machine appliqued. This process was fun but when it comes to quilting the whole quilt, well, I have to admit it was not as fun. But I somehow managed to do it.

This is the quilt before it was quilted.

The quilt top, the batting and backing are already rolled onto its respective roller and ready to go.

I spent a few days thinking and planning on how to quilt it. It is better to take it slow. To tell you the truth, to quilt an applique quilt using this quilting frame is not as easy as I thought. I had to do it section by section. It was a real challenge. I think over time it should be much easier. I will consult the supplier on this matter. There could be a better way. By the way, for anyone who is interested in getting this quilting frame can contact me.

And here is the quilt after quilting. It took me almost 2 weeks to completely quilting this piece. I celebrated the day I finished it! I did stippling from edge to edge, but section by section as I have to change threads. Right now, I can only do edge to edge quilting with a few patterns like stippling, curls, small flowers, and circles (Pardon me,i really don't know the right terminologies)

Dear quilters, I welcome suggestions and ideas on how to work with this frame. I mean, how do we do border quilting and block quilting. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Baby Set

I have been keeping these fabrics for a while. So one day I asked my assistant to sew the cover for make this set. Aren't the ducks cute? We can custom made bedding set for your baby. Even the set for baby cot including the cover for the cot bumper.

They are all made up of three layers - cotton top and backing; and cotton batting. But you can choose to use polyester batting if you wish.

Purple Sue Bonnet Tote

Yes, it's a purple tote. Requested by a regular client, with a bellow pocket in front. Something which we had never done before. I think it's for her grandaughter. So what do you think?

The pocket was a bit difficult to attach because of its thickness. Somehow, my assistant managed to sew it nicely. This type of tote makes a good X'mas gift for girls. It is already October. If you want us to custom made them for your loved ones, dont wait any longer. Time flies.

Quilting Service - Part 1

A friend came back from Ireland for holiday with two quilt tops. She requested that we finished the quilt for her. The first piece was quilted two weeks ago. It was a gift to her niece who returned to Manchester to resume her studies. I had forgotten to take a photo of the quilt.

This quilt below was actually the second piece, slightly smaller than the first one. This one goes to her daughter who is in Sabah (undergoing housemanship at one hospital there).

The quilting frame that I had installed almost a month ago is really a great help. I don't have to do tacking and basting anymore. Just assemble the quilt top straight away on the frame with batting and backing according. Once ready, I will take my time to start quilting. But it is important to get 3-4 bobbins ready before starting so that the quilting process goes smoothly. I completed the quilting for this piece (size 52" x 62" or 23 square foot) in 5.5 hours (I took it slow as I wanted to minimise errors).

Right now, I have one king size quilt top ready on the frame just waiting to be quilted. Hopefully I can start quilting it tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday morning.

My team and I have started making quilt tops for sale (quilting to follow suit). It is a great relief to have the quilting frame. Quilting is much more easier and faster too. I will give the details of the quilting service soon. But as a guideline, the quilting service is chargeable by the square foot.

Hannah & Lynnea

Remember the two pink quilts I made for Hannah and Lynnea? Their mom, Puteri organised a kenduri about two weeks ago and I attended it with a few friends. My journey to her place was very adventurous, making a U-turn almost one-third way back and driving down a narrow and hilly path! Phew, finally we made it in one piece.

Well, I don't get to take any photos of the girls with the quilts. Hannah was busy with other kids, Lynnea was not well. But I did take some photos.

Hand Applique Cushion Covers

I just love to see beautiful cushion covers especially the hand appliqued ones. Over the past two years, I have passed down some skills to a few people who share the same interest with me. These cushion tops were hand appliqued by my nephew's wife. I am quite happy with her work, but I know she can be better. I am definitely very serious about quality. Especially for custom made orders, we strive to produce great quality work. There were times when we had to re-work on some projects. But at the end of the day, the efforts were worth it. Quality does matter, in every sense. When a customer is happy, she will return for more.

Coming back, next, I machine quilted these tops using FMQ, my assistant did the other two. I was very satisfied with the result. Nowadays I could do FMQ without hesitation. Some simple, wise words from my assistant completely changed the way I did FMQ. Thank you for that MI. But it is really important to keep practicing, and to remember how to do it. I need to practice more to consistently get that nice curve or swirl. And also, don't be lazy.

Farewell My Dear Friend Jean

I first met Jean two years ago when she came to the shop with another friend of hers. Since then Jean would drop-by the shop. Sometimes she bought fabrics for her projects, or sometimes she just came to say hello. But most of the time, she would share with me her knowledge on patchwork and stuff. She kept encouraging me to do new things, something that we don't commonly do here, such as picture quilt or art quilt. I wish I could do evertyhing she suggested but I was skeptical as to how many people were willing to spend their money on those decorative patchwork items.

So I play safe. I make only things that are practical. Anyway, Jean shared her passion with me on her other hobbies such as jewelry making, beading, and crystal. It is sad that I have lost another good friend, well I mean she has to return to the US with her dear husband. She invited me to visit her. She said she would take me to the patchwork shops that are almost everywhere in the US! I will but not so soon Jean.

A few days before she left for the US, we had a simple lunch at the coffee house of the hotel where she had been staying for the past 3 years, Holiday Inn KL. Then we adjourned to her suite for a cup of tea. She handed me a project which she was working on but because she had sent off her sewing machine home, the project was sort of halfway done. I am yet to complete the project.

Here is Jean my dear friend who wishes me well in my venture. I wish her well too, in her new home in the United States. Hope you will make a lot of new friends there.

Cushion Covers for A Friend's MIL

A friend who now lives in Oslo is back in Malaysia for the holidays. She is married to a Norwegian. After 2.5 years there, she can now speak Norwegian fluently. She loves patchwork and wanted to get her MIL a patchwork gift. She came over to the shop and said that she did not want something bulky to bring back to Oslo. So I suggested that a cushion cover would be practical and nice. She asked me to make two pieces in green - her MIL's favourite colour. Here they are (50cm x 50cm).

I hope her MIL likes the covers.

Pillow CoversFor Boys

Remember Tihani's pillow covers? Well, her brother, Adam, upon seeing hers, kept asking her mom where is she going to make for him similar pillow covers. So a few days before Hari Raya, Adam's mom came over and requested me to sew two pillow covers for him. But I couldn't complete them in 2 days since I was alone in the shop. You know la Hari Raya mood has set in, so productivity was well, almost zero!

Anyway, the pillow covers were completed last week and here they are.

This one belongs to Adam's cousin brother.

If you follow my blog, you will notice that we received numerous requests for personalised cushion covers of pillow covers. We enjoy doing these small projects. Besides, it is quite fast to complete (when the mood is back!).

The Quilting Frame & Machine Are Finally Here

Finally they are here! I waited for over 2 weeks for the quilting machine and the quilting frame to arrive. I cant wait for them to be set-up. But because i was not sure how to assemble them, I had to get some assistance from one Mr. Handyman. After watching the DVD and a bit of trial and error, we managed to set up the frame and fit the machine.

Here are the boxes when they arrived, 5 boxes in total. It only took 2 days to arrive but documentation and clearance process at the airport took almost 3 days to complete.

Once set-up, we tried switching on the machine. It didn't work at first but after checking the connection and reading again the manual, the machine finally made a sound, yes it worked!! We did it.

Here is my assistant trying out the machine. It didn't take long before we get ourselves familirized with the machine. Now all we need to do is practice, practice and practice.

See, now she can pose with the machine.

We will be ready to take orders for machine quilting in a few weeks time. Ladies, if you have finished quilt tops that are ready to be quilted but hesitant to quilt them yourself, please get in touch with us. Yes, it is tough to crawl on the floor when we are doing basting. Or the table we have at home is just not big enough to spread the quilt. So worry no more ladies.

We will provide you with the quotation and discuss the details before we proceed. Now you can focus on getting new tops ready either patchwork or applique (which is the most interesting part of all the processes, don't you think?) Bags - Mother & Daughter 2

These bags design are simple yet when they are made using matching fabrics such as these two, they turned out really nice. Requested by a client for her mother as hari raya gift (in green). The bag is machine quilted using stippling design. Simple yet elegant. The handle is imported from the US.

The orange combination below is for the client herself, couldn't resist the temptation of having one! Thank you.

Quilts for Two Little Princess

These two quilts are for two little princess who lived in Norway! Their mommy, who is an old colleague, is in town for the fasting month and hari raya celebration. Before she return, we sort of exchange views on the designs of the quilts she wants me to make for her two pricess. And finally we decided on a pattern for both quilts. By the time she is back in KL in end July, me and my team have made 50% progress on both quilts. The centre pieces were ready but I needed her to sort of approve the borders that I had selected for both. Since the centre piece is already busy, we decided to pick a single fabric with small flowers, instead of a patchwork border.

Here are the quilts - Hannah is the elder sister.

And here is Lynnea's - the baby sister.

Both quilts were assembled using double layers of cotton batting and flannel as the backing. They were thick, quilting was a bit harder (esp. the border, using FMQ). They are really warm and we hope that the quilts will keep the two little princess warm in their home.

I will be seeing them this weekend. Hope to be able to get them to post with the quilt.

Pillow Covers for Tihani

Hello again. Today's post is about pillow covers (again). Well, one of my customers who was expecting came to the shop with her elder sister (since she is about to deliver anytime, someone needs to be with her in case of emergency!). Her sister ended up requesting us to make four pillow cases for her little princess, Hani. She chose the borders and the background fabrics. The rest, she said, I leave them to you to decide.

So we matched the applique fabrics against the borders. We used different fonts for the name as she wanted. And here they are. Three of the four were machine quilted (FMQ using different patterns). The last one was hand quilted.

Baby Bedding Sets

In my previous post I mentioned about mommies-to-be. Well, offlate we have been making a lot of the bedding sets. Alhamdulillah. We are still in the process of sewing a complete set as sample. Hopefully by next week it will be ready.

Here is the baby quilt and a pillow case for Puan Aznen's baby boy. She knew she was expecting a baby biy, hence his name was appliqued on the baby quilt. She keeps the baby quilt simple by choosing a panel. For the quilt backing, we use flannel. Later she requested for a matching pillow case.

Puan Azizan's daughter was also expecting her first child. She requested for two sets to be made, one is a standard set (in and yellow) while the other is for the baby cot (red and blue).

The new mom wanted something really striking, so she chose red. Not bad, they do look vibrant.

Puffy Quilt for 3-Seater Sofa

Hi. I hope it's not too late to wish all my Muslim friends Selamat Hari Raya. Hope everyone had a really good break. We had a good break. The shop was closed for 3 days. Hopefully next year me and my team can take a longer Raya break!

During the fasting month, we were quite busy finishing orders from customers, mostly baby bedding sets, baby quilts and cushion covers. We managed to complete the urgent ones (I mean baby bedding sets for mommies-to-be!). By the time I am writing this post, I believe the mommies are busy with their new bundle of joy, Pn. Aznen and another is Puan Azizan's daughter. Congratulations! I will write about them later. One of the custom made items was this 23" x 62" puffy quilt, for Pn. Mala. She needs this for her 3-seater leather sofa in the TV room. I use 2 matching fabrics to make it a little colourful. It was fun making it but you really need to be patient when filling the buns with the poly-fibre. Here are some photos of the quilt. I plan to make one for myself.

One can alter the size to fit your need, may be as a baby mattress, dining chair pad or even chair pad for your car. It is really comfortable.

Quilts for Two Sisters

Pn. I first requested me to make 3 cushion covers for Mother's Day.

Then later she wanted me to make two quilts for both her daughters. I love applique very much especially hand applique. So for Pn. I's two daughters, I proposed that we make 2 similar quilts for the girls. The applique motifs and the designs are exactly the same except the size for baby sister Afifah is slightly smaller.

Pink and purple were chosen as the main colours. One quilt was machine appliqued, the other was hand appliqued. We combined both hand and machine quilting for both quilts.

It was really fun to see how the quilts developed as we appliqued the motifs and later quilted the quilts.

The hand quilting of the blocks were really slow - however, my team and I managed to complete them beautifully, finally. Pn. I was very happy, so do we. It was the first time that we created something big (quilt) which are almost 100% identical.

It was a priceless experience. Thank you Pn. I for your support and trust.

Sue Bonnet Applique Samples

I received some requests for Sue Bonnet applique blocks. One request comes from East M. I tried to forward the samples by email but the files are just too big. So here are some of the bigger samples that I have selected for her (the size are 3.5" x 5" to 5" x 6").
The colour combination of the fabric can be changed, that is, please tell me the main colour scheme only eg. pink and purple, green and yellow, red and pink etc. I will still add in other colours for the shoes, hat etc that will blend in with the main colour scheme.
State the background fabric either white tone on tone, off white tone on tone or other solid colours if you like. But the applique will stand out if it is done on a light coloured background.
I like to use small floral prints, polka dots and various Gemstone by Fabri Quilt.

Yes, this coin pouch is to match the tote made earlier. Completed the pouch yesterday and was collected by the owner in the evening.

Two of a kind, the other one is our sample or probably ends up as Mine! I started off cutting two pieces of the same patterns and just couldn't resist sewing the second piece. It is so cute.

Japanese themed bag

A client spotted this fabric on her first visit to the shop two weeks ago. A few days later she requested that I reserved the fabric for her. She wanted me to custom made a tote for her.

And here it is, a rather simple tote with gusset and external binding. Fully machine quilted. The toughest part is to finish the binding by hand!

A very Japanese looking bag.

Another client who saw the WIP also bought half a meter of this fabric. She too wanted to make a bag with the fabric but using a different design.

And guess what, the last half a meter of the fabric is also taken, gone! A friend came and saw us putting the final touch on the tote. She stayed on and learned a simple reversible bag. It was done in about 3 hours.

There it goes, a happy me and three happy clients.

Hand Applique Baby Quilt

I made baby quilt again! It is commissioned by a mom-to-be, Pn. S. It measures 26" x 37" just to fit the baby cot.

This is the machine quilting part - quilt in the ditch. The quilting table is really a great help! Quilting around the applique motifs are done by hand.

For its backing, I use flannel for extra warmth. Lovely name isn't it? Good choice and a really sweet quilt for her first born.

Ladies, at the shop, we provide lessons on how to assemble this type of quilt in 4 to 5 sessions. For a quilt that measures 36" x 43" maximum, the cost to learn including materials is between RM300 to RM400 depending on the fabrics selection and finishing. We will even teach you how to use the sewing machine!

Long Overdue Dresden Plate Quilt

Hello. It's raining cats and dogs since 5.00am this morning in KL. How nice if I can stay indoor the whole day. But there are a few projects that are due in soon. So my team and I got to continue working on them.

Just to share with you what I have been doing in last couple of weeks. A puffy quilt but this is a prototype... The actual piece that I have to make for Mdm Mala is three times the size, now in the midst of sewing.

It's school holiday again! And it's time for some of us to take a break and go for a holiday. My friend, Mrs. D flew off to Melbourne last night, visiting her sisters. She would normally buy some gifts for her sisters' mother-in-laws. This time, she decided to come up with something personal. So I sketched to her this 14 inches cushion cover. We then chose the colours for each cover and the design.

Drawstring bags

These bags are made for a boy's birthday party to be held in July. Mrs. T plans everything well in advance. I guess she doesn't want to take things for granted. It was her design and we put everything together the way she wanted them, with some minor changes to make them simple to assemble. They turned out really cute. I feel like making them for my nieces and nephews.

Applique Class

Two weeks ago we had 3 new students, Miki, Michelle and Faizah. All of them decided to take up applique lesson. Session 1 was on hand applique using blind stitch. After a few hours, each managed to complete 4 leaves before I showed them the next step. The rest if the applique was done as homework.

Next session will be machine applique which is to be completed in the class.

Hope you enjoyed doing hand applique as much as I do. It is slow but very satisfying. See you all soon.

No, not this lady in pink. She is Sheila of Rose Inspiration. Once in a while she would come over either to just chit-chat or buy something. The visitor is this lady in blue, yes Puan Zura of Jurra Sew Cute. Orangnya pun cute. Both of them came over after the Epal Convention adjourned last Saturday. I was doing some stuff when both of them appeared. I didnt realised it was Zura at first. When Sheila asked me, do you recognise this lady? Immediately I knew who she was. I really like her sewing and embroidery works. She is very hard working, dont know how she find the time to do all that when she is still working fulltime. I guess, when we have passion for something, we will make time for it. Dont we crafters? Zura ended up buying a lot of baby panels as she said she already has a few orders in hand. I am happy that she liked them. Thank you Sheila for giving me the opportunity to meet up with Zura and for introducing her to my shop. I wish they came earlier so that we could chat a bit more. Pin Cushions Lesson

I was requested by a friend to give her a lesson on making apple pin cushion. After choosing the fabrics, I traced the pattern and cut out the fabrics. Next she sewn the pieces together, then stuffing it with polyester fibre. The leaf and the stem were made using felt (now I can really make use of my stash - fabrics and felt).It was very quick. Next she wanted to do a pumpkin pin cushion. I dug out my stash again and found an orange fabric, quite close to the colour of a pumpkin I guess. The sewing process was simpler followed by stuffing it with polyester fibre. In about 10 minutes, it was all done. Here's the pincushions. She was very happy with the outcomes. Now she can use the pumpkin (or orange) pin cushion for her cross stitch projects.

It's Fun Day Again!

Last Thursday we were really busy at the shop. The four of us were busy thinking what we should do that day. I had earlier made several pin cushions and they were ready for stuffing. So we decided to finish off the pin cushions.

Jenny from Kajang was there too. She was determined to complete her patchwork table runner project on that day. It was her first ever sewing-patchwork project. She completed the runner in four lessons. Good job.

Well, let's just say everybody was happy by the end of the day. Jenny completed her project and so did we.

Mariquitas Wall Hanging

Two weeks ago we did something fun again, yes, another wall hanging. This time we decided to do a machine applique project - 3 mariquitas (ladybugs)! Very bright red and green fabrics were selected. This wallhanging project was really quick, in about 6 hours we managed to complete the applique, including embroidering the antennas. And during the break, yes, we posed for the camera, as always! (Mira, Maritza and mommy) Here's the top that has been completed...Gracias everyone!

Then, I continued with the quilting - in the ditch & free motion and finally the binding.

Manzanas! Pin Cushions

It looked like the last 3 Thursdays, we had what I called Fun & Creative Patchwork went on at the shop. Of course, my Costa Rican friends, Maritza and her mom were around and they were more than happy to share something new with us. That's not all, be prepared to have fun all day long, yes, laugh, and laugh and more laughs.... And if you want to learn how to speak Spanish (Espanol), Maritza will be delighted to teach you. Well, we (Mira & me) spoke in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Spanish whenever they are around.... Pheew, I must say it is not easy but it was really fun.... Gracias. Yesterday we decided to do something small and fun, an apple or manzanas! I had the pattern in my keeping for sometime but haven't got the time to start. So yesterday was perfect. We trace out the pattern then cut out the fabrics. After sewing the 5 parts together, we stuff the apple with poly-fibre. Seen here is Maritza fixing a leaf to the apple. And by the end of the day, we completed 9 manzanas. Don't they looked yummy...

I guess other than using them as pin cushions, we can also put them in a glass bowl and decorate the table. Delicious!

Gallinas! Wall hanging

Yes, these are 3 gallinas! We started this project 3 weeks ago with the help of dearest friend, Maritza and her mom, we called Mommy. It was really fun making this wall hanging. Intensive Class for Miri Student

On Monday night when I was getting ready to leave, a lady came in and inquired regarding bag making class. After some explanation, she requested that I teach her within 1 day (11 to 6pm). I said it would be very taxing for you. But guess what, Pn. Jenab managed to complete her bag within 61/2 hours! A record so far for my student. She was very determined to complete it on Tuesday as she would be flying back to Miri the following night (that is tonite).

She chose to make the bag with the round handle. Her sewing skill and passion helped a lot....plus she made minor mistakes & best of all, no unpicking at all!

After 6 hours of hardwork, here she is posing with her new bag (some hand stitching yet to be done!). Overall, it was a day well spent.

I wish to thank our clients who kept coming with new ideas and requests. Some of them were pretty simple, some were quite challenging and required you to spend some time at the drawing board. Actually there are so many beautiful things we can create when we combine fabrics, embroidery plus of course, our imagination.

While we were doing the Sue cushion cover, a young client came in and requested for an IPad cover to be made. Here is what she requested, an IPad cover with Sue & Billy on the front cover and her name on the reverse.

Lately there have been several requests for Sue Bonnet applique. We just delivered 20 kits to one client. After seeing our latest project, she quickly place another order, so obsessed with Sue. They are very pretty indeed. Bright combination of fabrics further enhance the applique. Here is Mira closely monitoring the process.

We can applique them according to your need whether a small cushion cover, a pocket for a bag, a tote bag or even quilt blocks (we had done one in queen size, a total of 20 blocks). The size of the applique is fixed, the biggest is 5.5" x 5.5" and the smallest is 4.5" (H) x 3" (W). We can, however, vary the applique background size, that's what I mean.

For the recent CNY, Mrs. Tee had requested for 4 pcs cushion covers. The theme was pastel, thus I picked these colours. Rather pleasing for the eyes. A set of 2 in pink & yellow mix and another set in yellow & brown mix. Completed just a few days before CNY. Thank you again Mrs. Tee for supporting handmade products. Key Ring Pouches

Lately I love making small items such as these key ring pouches. We hand appliqued the flowers and machine quilted - free motion and straight lines. The zipper is sewn by hand. Now I can keep all the keys in one pouch.

Two more pouches without the the key ring and zipper (the red tulip is sold). Sorry I couldn't change the orientation of this photo!! Tried a few times but didn't happen.

Frame Coin Pouch

This was my first attempt at making a small coin pouch using the frame. I handstitched the body because the pieces were small. After joining all the sides together, make sure the top opening matched the frame size. I then handstitched the 10cm frame in place. It was tough as the size was small. The finished size was 3.5" x 3.5". I was satisfied with the result. Maybe next time I will enlarge the pattern slightly to make it easier to sew.

This was my second attempt but using a different pattern. This one was simpler as the pattern was made up of 1 piece (not 4 pieces as the first one). I machine sewn this piece. The size was 4" (W) x 3.5" (H). A slightly bigger size would be practical (so typical of me!!).

Handbag Again!

Ready, one, two, three smile..... Here is Mrs. DT with her new handbag. I am not sure the name of the bag (anyone?). It is really elegant. Made out of a heavy cotton fabric she bought in Australia. The round wooden handle makes it looked classy. It is suitable for a day out with friends or shopping.
Making it is not very complicated but stitching the handle is a bit difficult. May be next time I think of an alternative.

EMBA 6 Reunion Hi-Tea

Today's post has nothing to do with patchwork or craft at all. Last Saturday we had a reunion hi-tea. The last reunion we had was like 3 years ago. I guess this time the gathering was sort of a home-coming party for Mr. Ritzza (in checks on the right) who was attached to finance company in the Middle East. And soon he will be leaving for Maldives on a new appointment. How nice.

Anyway, I think there were 14 of us including Ros (not in picture, may be helping herself with the buffet). The rest couldn't make it. May be next time, when Che Wan is home for good from NY. All the best to Halim & Zulfahmy in their PhD and DBA pursuit. Rizal is thinking about it. Anyone else ?

Mini Prayer Mat & Matching Bag

We received several requests from customers for mini prayer mat. From what i gathered, they prefered a plain, easy to carry with minimal embelishment. Based on their feedback and my imagination, I started to design a simple mat that is easy to sew and not too costly. After a few days, here is the result. The bag was simple with white lace and made of matching fabrics as the mat. When folded, the mat fits inside the bag with some room for the attire. We offer a "2 in 1" class for these 2 items. We also welcome custom made request. Ladies, the mat is easily fitted in our handbag. The best part - you can now carry your own mat to public surau. More hygienic don't you think?

Mother's Day Special Gift

Table Runners

This table runner is a gift from a sister to her brother. The dining table is a 12-seater teak set. The batik was bought in Indonesia. We used solid brown border to highlight the centrepiece which was quilted around the motifs using gold thread. Same colour binding as the border to keep it simple.

This runner is made using paper piecing technique. Below is the matching placemat. At the time these were photographed, both were not finished yet. We used darker green solid fabric as binding. I will post the photos of the finished products later.

Bags for Mother & Daughter

These two bags were commissioned by Pn. Zila for her and her daughter.

The first bag is really big. We used quilt as you sew method. It is simple to make. Just cut the fabrics into strips and sew on top of the batting. A lot of ironing to keep the strips flattened. You can use your stash in making this bag. Binding was added to hide the seam - this part was a bit difficult. But with patient you'll manage.

The second bag was hand applique. A bit of patchwork at the top. Inspired by one of the books in my collection.

Special Friends from Japan

Guess what these cute items are?? They are actually tissue covers made by my Japanese friend Mrs. Ogawa who came to get her quilting supplies from my shop. The last time she dropped by my shop was to give me these special gifts, just before she left for Japan. These gifts were just too special to use. She even gave me the pattern. She said " You make". How thoughtful. It was an emotional departure for both of us. We were just getting to know each other better when she told me she had to leave for Japan. They had been living in Malaysia for quite some time on some business deals.

Christmas table runner & cushion covers

This table runner was put up together using Christmas panel and solid blue sashing. The owner chose starry blue border to suit her blue and silver Christmas theme.

How about a lady bug cushion cover, anyone? Or a cute teddy bear? These 18" cushion covers were made for Mabel from Singapore. Again hand applique and hand quilting were the preference. Photos were taken before the covers were completed. I had forgotten to photograph the finished products.

Dresden Plate Quilts

I started this dresden plate quilt last year. I am still struggling to find time to quilt the border. Once finished, I hope I can display it in the shop. Lesson is available on big project such as this one. You don't need so much fabrics for the dresden plates. One FQ for each colour is sufficient. In my case, I used 4 colours. However, we need to have sufficiently the background fabric to applique the dresden plates, here I have white tone on tone. The size is slightly bigger than a single quilt. I hope I can finish this quilt soon.

Table Runner for My Auntie

This table runner was ordered by my auntie some time ago. It measured 71/2 ft long and 22 inches wide. Hand applique with machine quilting.

We do custom made runners that just fit your dining table. Not only runners, piano cover, cushion cover, place mat etc. Please remember to bring the measurement or sample if you have one.

Custom made projects

I have been keeping all the photos of our custom made products for ages. I have not been managing my time well, I mean in updating my blog.
Today I feel like sharing some of the projects my team and I had completed so far.

This king size patchwork and hand applique quilt was commissioned by our first customer, made specially for his beloved wife as a Christmas gift. The quilt was ready just in time. Phew..... The centre piece was made up of 1000 odd pieces of 3" half square triangles while the border was decorated with hand applique motives which was then quilted using free motion quilting. The customer was extremely happy. So did I!

This photo was taken before bonding was done. See the effect of binding to this quilt (above photo)?

I will be posting more photos of the completed products real soon.

Classes and Workshops Available Daily

A four hour workshop is available daily from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. We will provide you with the standard kits (except for additional accessories). There are separate workshops for:

- baby quilt

- handbags

- applique (for cushion cover, wall hanging etc)

- patchwork (for quilt, bag, table runner etc)

- Hawaiian quilting

Or if you have a project that you want to do and want to take your time, you can sign-up for a six session classes (minimum 12 hours in total). Purchase the materials here and we will start the class as soon as you are ready.
